TNBC,
Teamsters National Black Caucus, is an organization of
black Teamster men and women, united by their special
concerns for workers, yet working within the framework
of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Constitution.
It is not a union.
TNBC and its chapters are playing a major role in the battle to end discrimination against blacks in
hiring, job classifications, promotions, pay and other related issues of employment. Since its
beginning, TNBC has been the driving force in increasing the level of Black Teamsters involvement
in union affairs at all levels. Blacks have been elevated to top executive positions with the International
Union Office, Conferences, Joint Councils and Local Unions. However, even these gains are far too
few. It is part of the TNBC’s program from the executive level of the organization, to provide
educational and research services to enhance the quality of participation by black men and women
into the affairs of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Union. The TNBC seeks to address the
issues through educational conferences and programs on subjects that concern black workers;
including personal and job related stress problems, parental leave, pay equity, health and safety related
matters. Working with TNBC activists, the organization will support economic and job related
issues concerning working members and their families, and act as a clearing house in collecting and
disseminating positive information.
The TNBC will also assist the membership through the filing of "Friend of the Court" briefs in legal
cases involving various employment, racial, harassment and discrimination issues.
The TNBC in cooperation with other black organizations, will strongly support nationwide voter
registration drives, and coast membership registrations. TNBC has always excelled in working with
political issues regarding the impact on black workers. TNBC will continue to reach out to unorganized
workers throughout America, informing black workers of the advantages and benefits of the Teamsters
Union. |
